Making reviews from a lot of different music styles is for sure not so easy but because it’s such a big challenge I never walk away from it, although even I do have my limits. But when I heard the first tumes from this record I knew I would like it, it’s just high standard progrock what Ajalon is bringing us on this album. It’s their second album but it took them nine years because their debutalbum ‘Light At The End Of The Tunnel’ was released in 1996. But hey, I’m not complaining, especially not because this is the first time I hear about Ajalon. This is in fact the brainchild from multi-instrumentalist Randy George, a wellknown name within the Christian Prog Rock-scene, so yes, this is a Christian band. But don’t let the lyrics do the talking, let the music speak for itself, that’s in my opinion what’s it all about. They start with the instrumental song "Anthem Of The Seventh Day" which has an Irish/Celtic-touch to it and it shows directly to what the three musicians(besides Randy on guitar, bass and keyboards we have Will Henderson on vocals, bass and guitar and Dan Lile on drums)are capable of and that’s a lot. This song even wouldn’t do bad on a Camel-record. Also influences from Kansas and Rush are being heard, for example on the second song "The Promised Land" on which singer Will impresses me a lot. Sometimes Will does reminds me a lot of Geddy Lee or Neal Morse, and it only shows what he can do with his voice. There are some nice guitarsolos on this song, the drumparts are inventive and the basslines are pretty groovy. The song "Sword Of Goliath" is one great fantastic progrock journey from the beginning to the end could be described as being an up-tempo progrocksong with some nice guitarwork and outstanding vocals. "Holy Spirit Fire" is just the kind of song you wanna listen to when you’re a bit down, just because this is a pretty warm song through the use of sitar, mandoline, acoustic guitar and piano. The song "What Kind Of Love" is also pretty special because of the jazzy touch to it and because the keyboard- and guitarparts are pretty inventive. Also special because Rick Wakeman is doing some solos on his keyboard and on his organ. The last song on this record is the titletrack which opens with some heavy and bombastic keyboardparts and a lot of great guitarwork. Furthermore we can hear singer Neal Morse on this track, this in combination with the great vocals of singer Will. This is again a great progrock-song and if you’re a real progrock-fan you’ll get a chilly feeling when listening to this song, it’s just amazing. I also want to mention that another wellknown musician, named Phil Keaggy, is singing and playing guitar on the song "Holy Spirit Fire". And normally this album should be over after song number nine but that’s not the case, there’s also a tenth track. This song is called "You And Me" and this is a cover from The Moody Blues, which has been recorded by Ajalon for the Moody Blues tribute album ‘Higher And Higher", which should come out soon or has been released already. So in all honesty, "On The Threshold Of Eternity" is a CD every progrock-fan should have in it’s collection, no doubt about that.
