Excalion gives us on their debut album Primal Exhale 50 minutes of glorious melodic power metal. The guitars contain great solo work and strong catchy riffs. The drums hurtle in your ears. The nice melodic keys give their sound a symphonic, even sometimes progressive touch. The vocals are mostly in the higher regions and are very very strong. Sometimes they are more modest and lower, which gives it a darker atmosphere. Primal Exhale contains some great structured songs and even some pearls among power metal with "Reality bends", "Dire waters" and "Temptation wasteland". The riot of the album is "A moment in the spotlight", which is a real sing-a-long anthem and could even get a lot of airplay on rock/metal radio stations as totalrock.com. With "Heart & Home" there’s also a thorough ballad added to the all the powerful melodic force. Excalion is probably not the most original band, but they made and extremely good album which sound as catchy as hell and rocks in all its aspects. In this case music stands above originality.
