Obtuse (NL) had the hard job to begin the second
day of this festival as first band for a hardly filled club.
Still they couldnt get stopped by anything to give a decent
gig. Their hard death/grind with thrash influences became the
ideal way to get the sleep out of the head. Next to their own
stuff they also gave a nice interpretation of Anthraxs
"Milk". A nice openings act.
On next the guys from Katafalk (NL). It became plug and play; cause 2 members
from Obtuse are also in Katafalk. After plugging
they definitely played a genius set of full anger modern
death/thrash metal. The sound was hard, the playing diverse with
great riffs and finger licking solos. It felt as a kick in the
face! Luckily there were already some more visitors and song by
song they got more heated and got swallowed by the aggressive
tones and energetic stage act. Even their singer concluded that
it would be a great day if the public progressed this way during
the day. At the end of the show most of the people were head
banging or enjoying a cool beer, but with full attention for the
northern Dutchmen on stage.
After this the guys from Prostitute Disfigurement (NL) came on stage. They played a fuckin
brutal set. Raging guitars, destroying drums and guttural grunts
and screams made every living creature blown away. Their massive
extreme gore death sounded solid and brutal, but also contained
some groovy parts, which made it pure nectar. The speedometer
went from ultra fast to sluggish slow, with eye for technical
details and lots of variation. One of the highlights of the day.
Blasphemer (I) came
all the way from Italy to be present at this festival. And it was
worth it. Clothed as some terrorist the came on stage, once there
they treated us on some dirty, raw and brutal death metal. A
massive wall of sound was created and in front of the stage some
fans were going completely insane. On stage the vocalist drank
half a bottle of whiskey during the gig, which gave him probably
a lot of adrenaline. Besides some drum problems the band was
going like hell and were yelled back for an encore! These madmen
had the times of their lives. The crowd watched it with pleasure
and gave them a standing ovation.
After this Italian attack the Dutch grind thrashers of Blood I Bleed (ex-My Minds Mine) (NL) came
tearing round the corner. Shrill crying screams, a devastating
guitar, a monstrous bass and murderous drums went pretty rough
inside. Their short songs went on in punishing tempo. A couple of
die-hards were going insane in front of the stage, unfortunately
most of the people couldnt appreciate their shit. Probably
they were too extreme for this bill.
Time for something different. Death metal from Algeria played by
a band called Litham
(veil of Mohammedan
woman) (ALG). They got a very bad sound, still they were able to
create a dark and heavy atmosphere to their brutal, still
technical death metal. I was really surprised by them, because its
not exactly commonplace to see a metal band from Algeria. Well
Litham proved metal in a global thing and they got a warm welcome
by the audience. Check them out when they play somewhere in you
neighborhood.
Around eleven it was time for Polluted Inheritance to hit stage. From the first tones the
public went insane on the technical death metal tunes of these
veterans. On stage the band prepared the ultimate mid-tempo death
metal to be fed at the hungry wolves in front of the stage. The
awesome powerful sound gave the glorious riffs, masterly drums,
brutal bass and great audible grunt a 100% overwhelming
brutality. Their stage act was as always one of many windmills
and angry faces. And when you werent head banging you could
fully the impressive tight playing by these guys. Highlights of
the set were "Broken", which flew over into the Death
cover "Pull the Plug", and of course their own
hymn "Faces" from their soon to be re-releases
debut album "Ecocide". Polluted Inheritance still rulez
and got what it deserved, recognition by a fully crowded club!
Talking about veterans, they probably exists as long as the band
before, the mega bulldozers of Suhrim (B). An enormous wall of sound raise up when they
began their set. They played their mid tempo death metal in a
heavy and brutal way. The looks of the musicians were killing,
the playing ponderous and dark and the sound was destructive and
penetrated the lowest regions of your stomach. Suhrim on its
best. After a couple of songs it was clear they played a winning
match. Brutality prevailed in the finest.
So after two long days it was time for Bile (NL) to end up the first festival of the
year. From the moment they entered the stage they walked all over
the other performances. These bloodstained butchers got the still
left audience wild on their fine tuned grind core sounds. Between
every song they got an enormous applause and were treated as real
Godz. When they announced the last song the public already began
to scream for encores. They did about 5 of them, with even some Insult
(!!!) work. This grinding madness became the crowning glory of
the festival. A worthy end of 2 days of underground madness.
